Hello and welcome to our homepage. I would like to give you the particulars of SOS Church.
So, in a nutshell, here is what we believe: God the Father is the creator of the universe. He knows everything there is to know. If it is knowable, He knows it, without effort. He created the universe through his Son Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are the other two parts of the Trinity. God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit make up the one true God. They are the same yet distinct in a way that will only be fully revealed when we get to heaven. Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself on the cross to die for, not only our sins, but our sin nature. His was a total death, body, soul and spirit. God raised Him after three days in the grave and Jesus now sits at His right hand, waiting for the day when He will come back and receive us to himself, bringing us to heaven where we will live with Him forever. Man exists on three dimensions – body, soul and spirit. The soul and spirit are not the same. The spirit of man is saved instantly during the new birth. The saving of the soul is a process that is worked out in a Christian’s life.
We are a non-denominational, spirit-filled, free-church. What I mean by free-church is that we are not incorporated. This prevents any involvement with the IRS. The natural question after that is “Are my tithes and offerings tax deductible?” The answer is yes. You see, Churches are tax-exempt by design and the First Amendment. Please refer to IRS publication 557 found here: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p557.pdf If you turn to page 31, middle column, you will find the following text:
“Churches. Although a church, its integrated auxiliaries, or a convention or association of churches is not required to file Form 1023 to be exempt from federal income tax or to receive tax deductible contributions, the organization may find it advantageous to obtain recognition of exemption. In this event, you should submit information showing that your organization is a church, synagogue, association or convention of churches, religious order, or religious organization that is an integral part of a church, and that it is engaged in carrying out the function of a church.”
Form 1023 is the form used to establish a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. You can see that Churches have been duped into believing that without this tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status, they won’t receive tax-deductible donations. This is false. When a Church incorporates, they become an agent of the State. That is what incorporation means. I have chosen to keep SOS Church separate and set apart from the State. Sounds off the hinge, I know, but I’d rather not involve the Church in any of the legal messes that other Churches find themselves in. There is too much to be done.
More later….. If you would like to join us on Sunday mornings, we meet at SkyView Middle School in Colorado Springs (see map below) at 10am. If you have questions or would like to request prayer please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 719-638-8770
